Sad. The lamb has a peaceful look on it's face, even a bit of a smile. The mother so distort and the birds waiting for the pick! I do like that painting.
It's a wonderful painting. I see the mother as somewhat stoical, protecting her dead offspring as long as she can and not wanting to give in to the crows. Mind you, there are so many crows that none of them would get much of a meal.
That is a grieving mum! Such a powerful image. Yet in Melbourne? I gonna find out where
ReplyDeleteIt's at the National Gallery of Victoria.
DeleteI checked online and it looks like a terrific museum.

ReplyDeleteOh dear. I'll stay with Joseph "mutton" Farquharson who I used to like in Aberdeen art gallery.
ReplyDeleteWere the crows waiting patiently for the mother to move away, so that they could peck at the dead lamb's body? I feel so sorry for the sheep's grief.
ReplyDeleteIt's the mother isolation and loneliness and despair - that's what he has painted.
